Ground-floor bedrooms overlooked by a neighbouring terrace, a lounge that faces the road, a pool that the apartment block above can see straight into. These are the jobs we get called for most, and film solves them without blinds, shutters, or giving up the view you paid for.
Privacy window film turns the outside face of your glass into a mirror during daylight hours, so people outside see a reflection while you keep a clear view out and full natural light. It works by reflecting more light than passes through, which means it gives daytime privacy, not privacy after dark, when the lighting is reversed.
One-way mirror, honestly explained
The mirror effect depends on which side is brighter. In daylight the outside is brighter, so the glass reads as a mirror from outside and stays clear from inside. After dark, with your lights on, that reverses: the effect works the other way round. Any installer who tells you a standard reflective film gives 24-hour privacy is overselling it.
Where round-the-clock privacy is the actual requirement, frosted film is the honest answer, and we will say so on the visit rather than fit the wrong product.
How dark does it need to be?
Silver 20 gives the strongest mirror and the most privacy, and rejects 80% of solar heat as a bonus. Silver 30 is the usual middle choice. Silver 50 gives a light, subtle effect for rooms that need to stay bright. All three block 99% of UV.
We also fit darker non-reflective privacy films where a mirror finish would look wrong on the building, the black film on a restaurant frontage in Marbella is a good example of that.
Common questions
Does one-way film work at night?
Not in the same direction. The effect follows the brighter side, so once it is dark outside and your lights are on, the privacy reverses. For genuine round-the-clock privacy we recommend frosted film.
Can I still see out?
Yes. From inside the view stays clear; that is the point of it. It is noticeably tinted on the darker grades, but the view is not obscured.
Will it stop my neighbours seeing into the pool?
During the day, yes, and that is one of the most common reasons we get called. For a pool overlooked at night, frosted film on the balustrade is the better fit.
